I wish I could make a dollar for every time I had someone asks me "why isn't my workout routine working?” They will tell me that they exercise but they are still not getting any results. There are lots of reasons that can be the culprit behind the problem but I have broken it down into 4 secrets to help you fix the problem.
1. You can't just exercise and expect to loss weight. It's the right way to start but proper nutrition has to follow. Everyone should create a food diary. If you just kept a diary for one week you would be able to see why it's so important. The combination of exercise and diet is the only way to building lean muscle; raise your metabolism, increase energy, and lose weight that will stay off. I'm not talking about a diet that you do for 90 days and then you can go back to your old habits. I'm talking about a total life style transformation that lasts forever.
2. Here’s a secret…if you don't eat breakfast then you will be fat! I can't stress that enough. You've been fasting for 10-12 hrs without food and your body has to slow down in order to conserve what nutrients it has. When you get up you have to eat within the first hour in order to get your metabolism going. This is also why I recommend that you eat something within 2 hours before bed. That doesn't include Ben and Jerry's, cookies, brownies, cakes or pies either. You need to eat quality foods that are made up of proteins and fibers. You must eat 4-6 times a day and always have a protein with a carbohydrate. Protein takes a lot longer to digest and will keep you full longer. Also when you combine a protein with a carbohydrate you will prevent from creating spikes in your blood sugar. Increase your fiber intake. Last but not least, always try to eat whole foods when possible that are not processed or milled into powder and always try to buy organic foods. Remember if you can follow these things you will fire up your metabolism and burn more fat throughout the day.
3. Most people join a gym thinking that if they make the money commitment all their fitness problems will be over. They come in and just work out on the treadmill or they will do the little circuit of equipment that the gym has set up for new members. Don't get me wrong these circuits are good stuff to help beginners or when you need a fast routine. But the bottom line is you have to mix it up. You can't just do the same thing over and over again for 12 weeks and expect big results. This is the reason why 30 minute workout fitness franchises are not the answer to your fitness goals. It's a good start for someone who is sedentary but after performing the same workout over a longer period of time your muscles become unchallenged and you reach a plateau. Think of your muscle as a building and every time you work out it’s like a hurricane hitting that building and causing damage. As the muscle repairs itself it builds the building stronger or in this case muscle fibers strong. The next time you work out the muscles are ready for it. This is a good thing but in order to keep getting results we have to change the routine by including modified techniques incorporating interval training, circuit training, hiking, obstacle courses, biking, and swimming, etc.
4. It is really hard to get people to understand that just eating healthier isn't always the answer. So you went from eating hamburgers after your workouts to those meal replacement protein shakes at the gym. A hamburger might have 300 calories and most meal replacement drinks have at least 300 calories. You still have the same amount of calories to burn. Calories are calories no matter if they are healthy ones or bad ones. You have made the step in the right direction but you must have a caloric deficit to lose weight. One pound equals 3500 calories. If you really want to lose weight then you need to create around a 500 calorie deficit in your diet to lose one pound per week.
Take for example, if you are a women who weighs 200 pounds, your resting metabolic rate would be approximately 2,000 calories a day just to maintain your normal activity. If you work out and burn 300 calories, your daily caloric expenditure would be 2,300 calories. If you wanted to lose one pound per week you would need to take in approximately 1,800 calories daily to see a steady weight loss.
In closing, remember that just going to the gym is not the answer. Start a food diary so that you can see what is going into your body. Your nutrition is a critical part of the transformation. Just by eating 4-6 times a day and making sure you start your day off right by eating a healthy breakfast within that first hour after waking up is essential to increasing your metabolism and promoting weight loss. You can have fun doing many different activities and by mixing up your routine get better results. You must have a 500 calorie deficit a day to equal a pound of weight loss per week.
This is a lifestyle change and you can do it! Just imagine how great you will look and feel after implementing these 4 secrets into your life. Life is an adventure and you need to train for it!

A Healthier Holiday Season
A Healthier Holiday Season
For those watching their waistlines, the holiday season can be a stressful time. Many people will tend to gain an average of 2 lbs. during the holiday season & they tend not to lose the weight that was gained. The bad news is that the weight gained during the festivities turns into an unwanted gift that can't be returned!
Tips to Healthier Holiday Eating:
Eat a decent breakfast and lunch. Don't starve yourself until the big meal arrives.
Drink two or three glasses of water before the feast begins.
Eat 3/4 of the food on your plate and don't overload it. Eat your meal from a small dinner or salad plate.
Reduce your intake by refusing seconds. Remember that you can always enjoy leftovers the next day.
Exercise before the meal; this will suppress your appetite and boost your metabolism.
Keep a journal of what you eat. Remember that one pound is equal to 3,500 calories.

11/23/08
This past week we completed our sixth North Myrtle Beach Adventure Boot Camp for 2008. There is one more camp left for 2008, which will begin Monday, December 1st. There were 16 campers in the November camps. 5 of the 16 post evaluations have been completed and we have already seen really good results. Out of the 5 evaluations completed we recorded a total lose of 9 pounds, 15 1/4 inches, and an average of 5% body fat loss. Three of the five ladies were return campers that were on their 3rd or 4th camp. I am so proud of how hard all the campers worked this month and look forward to seeing the results of the other 11 tomorrow.

The Answer to Your Lack of Motivation is Right Outside Your Door!
Have you ever joined a fitness facility and soon after find yourself wondering why you ever signed a gym contract? Well, you are not alone. More than 35% of people who join a fitness club quit each year.
The IHRSA, which is an International Health & Fitness Organization, conducted a survey to find out why so many people cancel their gym memberships. The most stated reasons are as follows; overcrowded facility, inconvenient club location, lost interest or motivation, couldn’t afford the expense, and new demands made on my time. It is not surprising to me that price and time were among the top reasons cited for discontinuing gym memberships. Lack of income and time are legitimate reasons for leaving a club, however I suspect that a higher percentage of people had little knowledge of what to do once they were inside the gym and there was no support system in place to keep them motivated to continue. If your health and well being are a priority to you I suspect you will find the extra time and money to invest in yourself. The answer to lost interest or lack of motivation could very well be right outside your door!
Most women would enjoy and benefit from having a personal trainer teach them proper work out techniques but for many the cost of working with a highly certified professional trainer is not in their budget. This is where a certified outdoor fitness boot camp is a great alternative to personal training inside of a gym. Boot camps provide motivation, fun, and great results! A quality boot camp program is designed so that many women of different fitness levels, sizes, and ages can work together in a group.
Boot camps are very effective in helping women achieve and maintain their fitness goals. The use of cardiovascular training, strength training, Pilates, and Plyometrics, not only burn more calories during your training session but through kicking up your metabolism you continue to burn more calories throughout the rest of the day. The result is increased energy, body fat reduction, and muscle definition.
When looking for a boot camp to attend, it is important that the trainer be a Certified Personal Trainer who is also a Certified Adventure Fitness Trainer. Certified Adventure Fitness Trainer’s are accredited by the National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association.
The North Myrtle Beach Adventure Boot Camp for Women is part of the largest fitness boot camp program in the world, Adventure Boot Camps. They offer 4 week ladies only boot camps at 5:30AM & 9:00AM to meet the needs of the busy women. Women who attend North Myrtle Beach Adventure Boot Camp will experience a variety of fitness activities such as games, obstacle courses, interval training, strength training, Pilates, and even hiking.
Can you imagine how you will look and feel after four weeks of fun, energizing activities designed to help you reach your fitness goals? Grab a friend and come enjoy this ultimate out-of-gym experience!

Today was another incredible day at NMB Adventure Boot camp. The campers ran through a circuit today and got an incredible workout in 1 hour! The main word I heard repeated after camp was the word "fun"! I heard a lot of laughter today as the women challenged themselves to push through one more time!
It looks like we have 1 more rainy day to deal with here at the beach and then it should be nice enough to hold beach Pilate's day at camp. Beach Pilate's is a favorite with most of the boot campers. It is a very relaxing and energizing way to begin or end your day.
Today is a big day in America as we head to the polls to vote for whichever candidate you would like to see in office for the next 4 years. With all of the stress in our society right now people should look to a fitness program to help relieve stress and feel better both physically and mentally.
Adventure Boot Camp is a great way to be a part of a successful fitness program that will relieve stress and give you the body results that you are looking for. Boot Camp will help you get fit in the outdoors, which is also proven to help combat depression and the effect that stress has on your body.
Tonight I look forward to spending time with my family watching my 3 children at their soccer games and coming home to watch the election results.

Day one...Adventure Boot Camp 6
Today was an awesome day for me at NMB Adventure Boot Camp. I feel excited & motivated today after training a great group of people today during the 3 boot camp sessions.
It is an incredible feeling to be able to work with people who have the desire to make such a lifestyle change. The first day of camp is always great because everyone is excited and a little nervous about what they will experience at boot camp. It was nice to hear some of our client's say how fun boot camp was today and how they were worried for nothing because they really can do this & it is fun!
The rain didn't hold us down today and everyone was able to get a great workout during their session. Today was buddy day and we had quite a few buddies come out to give boot camp a try. Each one decided to join for our November camp!
We did some fun activities for everyone to learn names and a little something about each person. The campers also seemed to enjoy the flashback from the 80's workout music on my IPOD!
Even between running 3 camps today, I found some time to spend with Krista to take her shopping for new boot camp sneakers. She was able to find a nice pair of Asics at the Rack Room Shoes at Tanger Outlets. They have a buy one get one 50% off sale if anyone needs a new pair of shoes!
We are getting ready to offer a special incentive for becoming a Very Important Boot Camper this month....keep watching your email for the details!

Another NMB Adventure Boot Camp Begins!
It's hard to believe that tomorrow on November 3rd we will begin the sixth North Myrtle Beach Adventure Boot Camp for 2008! That means that the year is almost to an end.
North Myrtle Beach Adventure Boot Camp for Women began in May of 2008 with 7 energetic ladies in the original 5:30AM class. The women in the community were very excited about a whole new concept to fitness training in this area and each month camp continued to grow.
In July we hit a record attendance of 23 women sweating it out in the 5:30AM camp...yes, it was HOT at 5:30AM at the beach in July!
The ladies in boot camp have worked hard each month and have seen incredible results! Some women have lost up to 13% in body fat and during the month of August, 11 amazing women who had their body measurements taken recorded an astounding 53 5/8 inch total loss between them!
As the word spread around town about this ultimate out-of-gym experience more and more women expressed interest in joining this unique outdoor fitness program. A second boot camp class for women only was recently added at 9:00AM for those who can't make the original early bird camp at 5:30AM.
As the year comes to an end I am already looking forward to another great year in 2009 of helping more people achieve personal goals that they once felt were the impossible. I meet incredible people on a daily basis who are searching for better health and wellness. I feel so blessed that so many people have trusted me to be their support and guidance to lead them on their journey to better health and longevity.
